They say laughter is the best medicine, and I have to agree. Too many times we stress out over little things and let them grow into larger issues and give them more weight than they deserve. Studies show laughter helps you relax, boosts your immune system, and relieves tension. Learning to laugh at yourself (without cynicism) is healthy.
Today, I challenge everyone reading this blog to step outside your comfort zone. Do something that makes you laugh. Schedule fun into your day. Make an effort to incorporate laughter into your daily routine for the next 21 days. Then see how you feel.
Here are some ideas to try:
1.) Go to a comedy show. We have an awesome comedy club located inside Fat Fish Blue in Perrysburg - The Funny Bone.
2.) Check out a play. The Village Players have some fun plays that will knock your socks off!!! My Grandmother has held season tickets for years, and I highly recommend you check out!
4.) Watch a Funny Movie. Nothing's better than a comedy flick that has you laughing so hard you're in tears. Sarah's top 3 pics: Super Troopers, Elf, and TAG.
5.) Hang out with your best friends. They say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Surround yourself with fun friends. Organize a game night with friends or through a summer BBQ and have some fun! Looking for something different? Try an escape room like Trapped Toledo or Toledo Room Escape.
6.) Smile more. Scientists have found that smiling on purpose can help people feel better. Smiling on purpose can change the brain's chemistry. The simple act of putting a smile on your face can lead you to feel ACTUAL happiness and spread joy! Try it TODAY!
7.) Hang out with kids. The old adage, "Kid's say the darnedest things" couldn't be more true. Spend an afternoon hanging with your kids, or your friends kids if you don't have any. Better yet, volunteer with a program like Big Brothers Big Sisters. Be present, and enjoy those happy, young souls.
8.) Get a pet. Having a pet can improve your emotional and our physical health! They don't talk back, they are always happy to see you, and they want to snuggle! Think a pet is too much work, then stop into The Ford Group Office for some Snuggles with Stella!
9.) Learn to laugh at yourself. "When you can laugh at yourself, no one call make you a fool." Believe it or not, learning to laugh at yourself is a step closer inner peace. When you are comfortable with yourself you're balanced, self aware, and are free of other's judgement. This is another reason you have to look for laughter everyday!
10.) Collect laughter quotes. This one is near and dear to my heart. I have Pinterest boards for everything - including reasons to laugh. I am also a post-it note junkie. I write myself affirmations and funny quotes and post them all over my bathroom mirror, closet doors, walls, you name it! You have to commit to change your thoughts, and reminders help.
11.) Follow funny people on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. In today's technological era, we spend more and more time scrolling social media. Follow people that encourage, motivate, uplift and of course, make you laugh!
12.) Prank a friend, family member or colleague. As long as they a fun in nature, won't cause damage, and won't hurt feelings - let's have some fun! Check out some awesome pranks we found!
